The domestic worker who jumped from the terrace of a house in Valasaravakkam while trying to escape a massive fire that broke out earlier this week — claiming the lives of an elderly lawyer and his wife — succumbed to her injuries at a government hospital on Monday (May 12, 2025) night.

The fire engulfed the house in Choudry Nagar in Valasaravakkam on Sunday (May 11, 2025) afternoon due to an electrical overload. The elderly couple, Natraj, 74, and his wife Thangam, 70, who was bedridden, were charred to death in the incident, whereas their grandson Shravan escaped with minor injuries.

The domestic worker Saraswathi, of Ramapuram, who was also in the house at the time of the fire, jumped from the building’s terrace. She sustained grevious injuries and was admitted to a government hospital for treatment.

She died on Monday night, the police said.
