A 21-year-old youth was arrested in Thiruvanmiyur for possessing heroin, following an operation by the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU).

The arrest was made after a surveillance operation near Kamaraj Street, Periyar Nagar, based on information received by the city police.

The ANIU Special Squad and Thiruvanmiyur police conducted the operation and intercepted a suspicious individual. Upon searching him, they found 7.54 grams of heroin hidden on his person. The accused was identified as Shakin Islam, a 21-year-old from Tripura. Along with the heroin, the police seized two mobile phones from the suspect. Further investigation revealed that Islam had smuggled the drugs from Tripura and was selling them in Chennai.
