Congress general secretary and in charge of party affairs in Punjab, Bhupesh Baghel, on Friday (April 11, 2025) said the party had already started working on strengthening the organisation right up to the ‘booth level’ across the country, and the same was being done in Punjab.

Mr. Bhagel, who is in Punjab on a two-day visit, held a series of meetings with the party leaders, including one with the District Congress Committee (DCC) president and another meeting of the Political Affairs Committee.

“The Congress party has declared the year 2025 as the year for strengthening the organisation. The party is empowering the DCC presidents. The Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi met all the district presidents from across the country ahead of the recently held AICC session,” he said.

“The party will be strengthened right up to the ‘booth level’. Among other things, there was a lot of emphasis on strengthening the party in the AICC session in Ahmedabad,” he added.

Talking to mediapersons, along the sidelines of the meetings, Mr. Baghel said, “The basic homework for the extradition of the 26/11 terror attack mastermind Tawahar Rana was done during the UPA regime only. Such things take time; even the NDA took 11 years to get him extradited. Such issues must be looked beyond partisan lines, as these are the issues of national interest. What is important is that he has been extradited to India and he will now face the country’s law for the crime he committed,” he said.

Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Partap Singh Bajwa were among the senior leaders present on the occasion.
