YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is scared of the YSRCP as he cannot face people with unfulfilled promises. Hence, the Chief Minister is resorting to undemocratic practices to target the YSRCP, he alleged.

Mr. Naidu and his team would try more such tricks and the cadre should be alert. Nevertheless, it’s a passing phase, and “Jagan 2.0” would stand by the cadre, he said

Addressing the YSRCP leaders of combined Kurnool local bodies at the party office at Tadepalli near here on Thursday, Mr. Jagan said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government had been in power for more than 11 months, and the government presented two budgets. Not a single promise had been fulfilled. Instead, Mr. Naidu had been citing varied and inflated debt figures — ₹10 lakh crore to ₹12 lakh crore — to scare people and escape accountability. Every electoral promise had become a betrayal, he said.

‘’It’s been 11 months since the coalition formed the government and people are still eagerly waiting for his promises to be fulfilled. The people are vexed with Mr. Naidu and his blatant lies on various issues, as the education, health and agriculture sectors have been badly affected. No farmer is getting MSP, students are not getting fee reimbursement and ₹3,500 crore is pending towards Aarogyasri,’‘ he said.

Mr. Naidu had been making a mockery of democracy by trying to take control of local bodies though the TDP had no required numbers. Of the 57 seats where by-elections were announced, seven were postponed and of the remaining 50 the YSRCP had won 39 as the party cadre stood their ground and took head-on the Chief Minister’s undemocratic measures. It’s time to brace up, and the cadre should stand up for the people and organise from the grassroots level, he said.

The former Chief Minister said despite keeping all promises the YSRCP had lost because people believed Mr. Naidu’s lies. The Chief Minister had lured them with exaggerated welfare promises — ₹45,000 for three children and ₹48,000 for women above 50. Every household was targeted with fake bond papers in Mr. Naidu’s name. This misled 10% of the voters who thought Mr. Naidu would do more than Mr. Jagan, he said.
