Three persons in the guise of delivery executives attempted to rob a 72-year-old woman at gunpoint in north-west Delhi’s Pitampura. The accused, identified as Pankaj, 25, Rama Swami, 28, and Abhishek, 26, have been arrested, said police on Monday.

Police registered a case based on the elderly woman’s complaint.

The incident took place on March 31, around 3.30 p.m. when the complainant, Kamlesh Arora, was at her residence.

Police said that one of the accused entered into Ms. Arora’s house pretending to deliver a courier. He tried choking her. Soon, another associate entered brandishing a gun. However, the victim’s daughter rushed out and quickly locked the door, forcing the assailants to flee. The three men escaped on a motorcycle, police said.

After arrest, Pankaj confessed that he planned the robbery to get money for alimony payments following his divorce, DCP (North West) Bhisham Singh said.
