A youth belonging to an alien faith forced his way up to Tirumala on Monday, evading the mandatory checking at the Alipiri security point in Tirupati.

Despite attempts by the on-duty staff to restrain him, the youth barged through the VIP lane and motored up to the hill-town, triggering panic among security personnel.

The attempts by the security staff to stop him at Sri Vinayaka Swamy temple around two kilometres away from the tollgate on the ghat road also proved futile.

Alarmed over the development, the security personnel immediately alerted their counterparts at the GNC tollgate in Tirumala, who detained him and handed him over to the police after preliminary inquiry.

The youth gave the police irrelevant and inconsistent replies when they tried to quiz him.

The police shifted him down to the regional psychiatric block in Tirupati to assess his mental health.

Preliminary reports suggest that the youth hailed from Singalagunta in Tirupati. The police are yet to conclude the reasons for the youth’s behaviour.

However, the security breach has highlighted the need for more stringent measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
