Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (Kufos) has identified four thrust areas for the new financial year, with building infrastructure getting top priority. The focus will be on developing academic and administrative buildings for the Payyannur Fisheries College.

The varsity has earmarked ₹15 crore for infrastructure. Educational facilities across four faculties will be improved with an outlay of ₹9.6 crore. Research and extension activities have been allocated ₹7.50 crore and ₹1.60 crore, respectively.

A communication from Kufos stated that the varsity has a Budget of ₹35.50 crore for 2025–26, ₹2 crore more than the previous year, owing to increased “growth on the education and research front.” Kufos is ranked 56th among world universities under the Entrepreneurship Spirit category. The university has also secured the first Atal Incubation Centre under the fisheries category.

Kufos has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with universities and research institutions both within India and abroad to broaden its research base in fisheries and ocean studies. The university launched two new PG programmes during the last academic year, said Vice-Chancellor T. Pradeepkumar. He added that the current Budget would augment sustainable development in the university’s education, research, and extension activities.
