A total of 41 accused, including 14 history-sheeters, have been awarded life imprisonment in 12 murder cases in the district in 2025 alone.

One more accused in one of these murder cases has received death sentence. An official statement said, five murder cases were reported in Veeravanallur police station in 2000, 2001, 2009, 2011 and 2013 following enmity between two groups belonging to different castes. Though seven persons were murdered in these five cases, the accused in four cases were acquitted.

In 2011, C. Rathnavel Pandian of Veeravanallur was murdered by 21 persons in retaliation to the murder of one Ayyappan and the case was pending before the court for nearly 14 years. Kombaiah, 38, were awarded life imprisonment on Wednesday (March 26) while others were acquitted.

This is the only murder case recorded in Veeravanallur police station since 2000, in which at least some of the accused have been awarded life imprisonment.
