Nine cases registered against Seeman in Coimbatore

Nine cases have been registered against Naam Tamizhar Katchi leader Seeman in Coimbatore district for his ‘objectionable’ remarks against social reformer Periyar E.V.Ramasamy.

Dravidar Kazhagam, Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, and other organisations lodged complaints with Thadagam, Periyanaickenpalayam, Pollachi East, Anaimalai, Mahalingapuram police, and Mettupalayam stations in Coimbatore Rural district on Thursday. In the city limits, cases were registered in Race Course, Podanur and Sundarapuram stations.

The NTK leader was booked under sections 192 and 353 (2) of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita Act.

Father arrested for negligent driving by teen son

TIRUPPUR A father of a 17-year-old boy was arrested by the Tiruppur City Police on Friday after the latter caused a fatal accident by riding a motorcycle in a rash manner.

The boy had reportedly knocked down Veeral (65) of Jayalalithaa Nagar in Veerapandi, causing her severe head injuries. She was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. Based on a complaint lodged by her son Kumar, the Veerapandi police registered a case against the boy and his father Arumugam under sections of Motor Vehicle Act. The father was arrested and remanded in judicial custody in the Coimbatore Central Prison.

Two devotees die, three injured in accident

COIMBATORE Two Ayyappa devotees were killed when the car they were travelling in swerved and hit a tree at Pethikuttai along Mettupalayam-Sathyamangalam Road during the early hours of Friday. Three more devotees in the car sustained minor injuries.

Police identified the deceased as T Nagaraj (58) of Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka and Venkata Aathari (62) from BR Hills.

The devotees were returning to Kollegal after worship at Sabarimala when the accident took place.

The Sirumugai police registered a case and arranged for postmortem of the bodies at Government Hospital, Mettupalayam.
