A total of 26.16 lakh students included in the school midday meal scheme will get 4 kg of rice each ahead of the school holidays that begin in April, Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty has said.

Students from pre-primary to Class VIII who are included in the midday meal scheme will benefit from the distribution of rice, to be done from the 17,417 tonne of rice stock available with the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) for the scheme. An order giving permission to the Director of General Education in this regard has been issued. The rice will be transported by Supplyco to schools directly.
