Renowned economist and former Chancellor of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (RSVP), Padma Shri V.R. Panchamukhi, appreciated the National Sanskrit University (NSU) for growing in size and stature over the decades. Participating virtually as chief guest at the 4th convocation ceremony of NSU here on Thursday, he highlighted the role of the university in becoming a central hub for the preservation of Sanskrit language.
He praised the university for maintaining the ancient language while integrating modern scientific principles and contributing to Indian intellectual heritage through its excellent programmes in Tirupati. He congratulated all the students who received their degrees and expressed gratitude for being able to serve as its Chancellor in the past.
NSU Chancellor and former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N. Gopalaswami, who officially inaugurated the convocation ceremony, expressed happiness that the university was making rapid strides. Explaining the ongoing research aimed at integrating artificial intelligence (AI) with Sanskrit language, the Padma Bhushan awardee shared details of the university’s advancements and future initiatives.
Pro Vice-Chancellor G.S.R. Krishnamurthy, who read out the annual report, announced that 75 students will receive their degrees, including PhDs (Vidya Varidhi), Acharya, M.A., M.Sc., B.A., B.Sc., as well as certificates and diplomas. He expressed joy that a total of 565 students qualified in various courses this year.
Registrar K. Venkata Narayana Rao, academic dean Rajanikant Shukla, controller of examinations Kambampati Sambasiva Murthy participated in the convocation, along with members of the Executive Council (E.C.) and Academic Council (A.C.).
Book launch
As part of the convocation ceremony, a book titled ‘Siddhanta Chintamani’, authored by Surapuram Srinivasacharya under the Ramanuja Project and edited by Prof. K.E. Devanathan was released. Additionally, a journal titled ‘Mahasvini’ edited by Prof. Shivaram Bhat from the Research and Publications department was also released.
Dean of Vedic Studies Krishneshwar Jha released another publication related to Vedas and Vedangas.
Gold medals
Gold medals were awarded to students achieving first place in various courses by the dignitaries present at the event. Lakshmi Prasanna received a gold medal for her top position in Prak-Shastra (Science), Y.Janaki for being the overall topper at the Shastri (Degree) level, while Amit Vikram K.S. received gold medal as the overall topper at Acharya (Post Graduate) level.
