Two persons who reportedly fell into the railway track between Aluva and Angamaly in an allegedly inebriated condition had a miraculous escape on Saturday (March 15) night as the loco pilot of Shalimar Express, which was speeding towards Thrissur, applied emergency brakes.

The visuals of the incident that emerged on Tuesday (March 18) showed the two coming out unscathed from beneath the engine. The Railway Police Force, Aluva, registered a case against Anandan and Arun Shinde, natives of Maharashtra, under the provisions of the Railways Act for causing danger or obstruction in a public way. The two were reportedly working as labourers in the Aluva-Angamaly area.

The loco driver, Anwar Husain, from Kayamkulam, spotted them on the track—one lying down while the other sat close to the line—about 10 minutes after the train had left Aluva station. He applied the emergency brakes nearly 100 metres away. The engine passed over them as the train screeched to a halt.

The two remained crouched without lifting their head as the loco driver and his assistant rushed out of their cabin. They came out unhurt in disbelief and were shifted to a safer place.
