Berlin-based artist Philipp Klinnert is showcasing a series of intricate drawings at an expo hosted by the Centre d’Art in Auroville.

The exhibition, “Artificial Braincandy”, is the outcome of the artist’s two-month residency at Centre d’Art and reflects the experience of Auroville and its people.

The series of multi-layered drawings explore the complex ways in which we interpret and fill our perceptions with meaning, language, and symbols to understand ourselves and the world, the Centre d’Art said. 

Driven by improvisation and intuition, the artist captures the contradictions inherent in our experiences—how we blend memories, ideas, and future concepts with the immediacy of the present. Using a variety of pens and pencils, including half-empty ones, the process reflects the diversity and inherent lack in our individual and collective ways of existing.

Philipp Klinnert, who hails from Freiburg, Germany, spent his childhood in Nicaragua where his father worked with an NGO. In 2013 he moved to Berlin and in 2019 he graduated at the Nelson Mandela International School (NMS).

After high school he worked as a lounge pianist in a restaurant, making music with fellow musician friends, working as a waiter, painting, writing film scripts and poetry, and performing comedy.

He has exhibited visual illustrations at the “Wedding Kunstmarkt” and the “Teltower Kunst Sonntag”, as well as private exhibitions by acquainted artists and friends. In addition, he transcribed traditional Nicaraguan folklore music to piano and performed it for the “Pan y Arte” Charity in Münster.
