Delhi CEO urges parties to maintain transparency in campaign finances

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R. Alice Vaz on Wednesday convened a meeting with the representatives of various political parties and briefed them on the implementation of the model code of conduct (MCC) and election expenditure monitoring measures to ensure free, fair, and transparent polling.

On Tuesday, the Election Commission fixed February 5 as the polling date for Delhi Assembly, with results set to be declared on February 8. During the meeting, Ms. Vaz emphasised the importance of the MCC, which came into effect after the poll schedule was announced. The CEO also urged the parties to maintain transparency in campaign finances and to submit expenditure details.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) removed around 1.26 lakh posters, banners, hoardings and other types of political advertisements from across the city after the poll code came into force.

Display of election posters, hoardings, banners etc., highlighting the achievements of the parties is not permitted under the MCC.

According to the data shared by MCD, the civic body removed 1,26,186 such advertisements from across its 12 zones till 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

The highest number of political advertisements were removed from South Delhi Zone with 20,479 material taken down, followed by Civil Lines (19,892) and Shahdara South (18,821).
