A 30-year-old history-sheeter was murdered by a gang that hurled a country-made bomb at him, in Kancheepuram on Tuesday (March 11, 2025).

A senior official of the Kancheepuram police said Vasoolraja, a resident of Poyyakulam area in Kancheepuram, had over 20 criminal cases pending against him, including attempt-to-murder, robbery, and theft cases, in various police stations. He had come out on bail recently and was working as a travel agent.

On Tuesday, he had gone to a ration shop near Thirukkali Medu Shiva Temple at around 1 p.m. As he was waiting outside the shop, unidentified youth threw a country-made bomb at him. It hit his chest before exploding, and Vasoolraja was killed on the spot. The Kancheepuram Taluk police sent the body to Government Kancheepuram Hospital for post-mortem examination.

A team led by two senior police officials of the rank of Assistant Deputy Superintendent of Police has been formed to apprehend the culprits.
