The second trial disposal of the Union Carbide’s chemical toxic waste began at a private incineration facility in Madhya Pradesh’s Pithampur on Thursday (March 6, 2025), officials said.

Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board Regional Officer, Indore, Sriniwas Dwivedi told The Hindu that the waste was loaded into the incinerator in the morning and the burning began at 11.06 a.m.

Mr. Dwivedi said that the second trial disposal of 10 tonnes of waste is being conducted at a feed (burning) rate of 180 kilograms per hour. The first trial that began on February 28 and ended on March 3 was conducted at a rate of 135 kg/hour.

“The process began smoothly after the dry runs of the machines were conducted last night. At present, we are doing real time monitoring of emission levels and air quality, and all parameters are within limits now,” he said, adding that samples of smoke release from the chimney will also be taken on Thursday and Friday for tests.
