Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar inspects the progress of new bus stand construction work in Ariyalur on Wednesday
Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar on Wednesday directed officials to expedite the construction works of a new bus stand here.
The new bus stand is being constructed by Ariyalur Municipality to replace the existing one, which came into being about 42 years ago. The Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department allotted a sum of ₹7.80 crore for the project under the Infrastructure and Facilities Fund.
Construction of 21 bus bays, 30 shops, an administrative room, a restaurant, time control office, ticket booking counter, an automated teller machine room and toilets were among the first phase of the project. In the second phase, a sum of ₹3.78 crore was allotted to construct six bus bays, 15 shops, a nursing room and toilets under the Capital Grant.
Mr. Sivasankar said that 90% of the work had been completed. Instructions had been given to the officials to complete the work as early as possible.
Collector P. Rathinasamy, Ariyalur MLA K. Chinnappa, Municipal Commissioner Ashok Kumar, Municipal Engineer Vijaykarthik and others accompanied the Minister.
