The New Washermenpet police have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly attacking a home guard personnel.

According to the police, K. Prabhu, 40, of Thiruvottriyur, is a home guard attached to the New Washermenpet police station. On Thursday (February 27, 2025), when he was on night duty, he saw the youth, identified as Bharat, 22, attempting to attack his father-in-law following a quarrel.

Prabhu intervened and prevented the attack, but in the melee, the home guard sustained injuries to his hand. Bharat fled the scene after threatening Prabhu.

Based on a complaint given by Prabhu, police registered a case and arrested Bharat, a resident of Tsunami Quarters in New Washermenpet. They also seized a knife from him.
