Following public complaints about a suspected leopard sighting in residential areas, the Forest department installed camera traps at two locations at Thottumukkam in Kozhikode district. While pug marks were found during field inspections, the Rapid Response Team has yet to confirm the animal’s presence.

For over a week, residents have complained about the presence of a leopard in the area after it reportedly attacked domestic animals. A few weeks ago, another leopard was caught in a cage trap at Perumpoola in Koodaranhi panchayat.

Forest department sources said further action would be taken after reviewing footage from the camera traps. They added that there was no confirmation yet that the domestic animals were attacked by a  leopard.

Amid public concerns and complaints, Forest department officials from the Thamarassery range reportedly conducted a thorough check at suspected locations in Kodiyathur panchayat. Deputy Range Officer P. Sudheer was part of the team that inspected the sites a few days ago.
