A diesel locomotive derailed at Tiruvarur railway yard on Monday (February 24, 2025), causing two commuter trains to run behind schedule. The incident occurred at around 7.55 a.m. at the ballast siding of the Tiruvarur yard when one bogie of the locomotive derailed while shunting.
Due to the incident, the Agasthiyampalli-Tiruvarur passenger (Train No. 76827) arrived late. The same rake that was scheduled to be operated as the Tiruvarur-Pattukottai passenger (Train No. 06851) was delayed by an hour.
Railway sources said an Accident Relief Train was dispatched from the Tiruchi yard to re-rail the derailed locomotive at Tiruvarur.
