A resource centre to train legislators in the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA), which envisages a paperless and digital State Assembly, was opened at the Puducherry Assembly complex on Sunday.

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy opened the facility in the presence of Speaker R. Selvam, Ministers, and members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).

The initiative to establish a paperless and wholly digital Puducherry Assembly, under the auspices of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, was launched with the preparation of a project report that was approved by the Ministry in 2022.

Subsequently, a Kolkata-based system integrator, Nimbus System (P) Ltd., was chosen in mid-2024, and a work order for ₹8.16 crore was awarded to implement the project, a press note said.

At present, the work of upgrading the electronic infrastructure in the Legislative Assembly complex is in full swing and nearing completion. The work of installing tablet devices at the seats of all the MLAs has been completed.

A high-speed internet service, through the National Informatics Centre Information and Communication Technology Network, has also been completed. The training centre is exclusively for imparting training on the NeVA software to MLAs, the Legislature Secretariat staff, and other government employees.

Meanwhile, an exercise to digitise all the documents is also under way at the Legislative Assembly Secretariat, says the press note.
