In a major breakthrough, a special team of Theni police, which camped in Andhra Pradesh, arrested three persons, who allegedly figured in supplying, smuggling and selling ganja and hashish oil with their counterparts in Tamil Nadu.

Following the arrest of a few accused in the district a few months ago by Uthamapalayam, Cumbum and other stations, the Superintendent of Police R. Shiva Prasad formed a special team comprising Inspector Parthiban, SIs of Police Kathiresan, Manikandan and Illayaraja.

The special team left for Andhra Pradesh about 10 days ago and camped in a few locations in search of the suspects. Based on the confession of the accused, the team, with the coordination of A.P. police officers, secured the suspects identified as Mogi Reddy alias Venkatesh, 35, of Kakinada district. After taking a prisoner transit warrant, the police brought him to Tamil Nadu and produced before a court.

Likewise, the team also secured Chelly Babu alias Nageshwar Rao of Pillikudi and Nagamani alias Pipereddy of Rajamundry. A total of 25 kg of ganja was also seized from the accused, the police said.

The investigation officers said that discreet probe suggested that the local accused in Theni district had contacts with agents in Andhra Pradesh, who supplied through various modes. In a bid to eliminate the narcotics movement, it was decided to secure the originating point.

The team was commended by Mr. Shiva Prasad. Further investigation is on.
