A 58-year-old assistant headmaster of a government high school in Arimalalm block in Pudukottai district was arrested on Monday (February 18, 2025) under the POCSO Act on charges of sexually assaulting a few girl students in the school.

The arrest was made following an inquiry conducted by the District Child Protection Officer and the District Social Welfare Officer on Monday, acting on complaints from the affected girls. 

The charge against the assistant headmaster was that he had been indulging in the crime for nearly two months, said official sources. Following the inquiry by the two officials, a complaint was lodged by a case worker of the District Child Protection Unit, Pudukottai and the assistant headmaster was arrested. 

The Tirumayam All Women Police has registered a case against the Assistant Headmaster under sections 9 (f) and 10 of the POCSO Act and under section 75 of The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, said police sources.
