Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav on Saturday said the party will prepare a road map to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level.

“This will be our topmost priority. We will take our lessons from the Delhi Assembly election,” said Mr. Yadav after convening a meeting of the party’s Assembly poll candidates.

He added that the Congress will “wait and watch” for the next three to four months whether the BJP delivers on its poll promises in Delhi.

The Congress failed to open its account in the Delhi Assembly for the third successive time. Of its 70 candidates, 67 lost their deposits in the poll.

“Congress will closely observe the performance of the BJP government, whether it will fulfil all its election promises or deceive the people as had been done by the (AAP chief) Arvind Kejriwal-led government for 11 years,” Mr. Yadav said in a press conference.

However, he said like a responsible Opposition party, Congress will keep raising the issues affecting the people.

Mr. Yadav called a meeting of the Congress candidates to discuss the reason for the party’s debacle and devise a future strategy for the political discourse. Of the 70 candidates, 67 lost their deposits in the Assembly poll.

Mr. Yadav said he is not surprised by the BJP’s plans to rebrand various welfare schemes in Delhi. “The (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi-led government had done the same in 2014 when it rebranded the various schemes and projects started by the Congress government,” he remarked.

“If rebranding Mohalla Clinics will benefit the people, why would anybody worry about it,” Mr. Yadav asked. On Friday, the BJP MLA from Delhi’s Rajouri Garden, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, said Mohalla Clinics would be renamed ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandir’ to make them “actual” centres for serving people.

Commenting on the probe into the renovation of the Chief Minister’s official residence at 6 Flagship Road and the money laundering case against former Delhi minister and AAP leader Satyender Jain, Mr. Yadav said the AAP leaders should not be worried if their hands are clean. “The truth should come out,” he added.

Regarding the CAG reports, Mr Yadav asked what prevented the BJP from tabling them in Parliament if AAP was not bringing them to the Delhi Assembly.
