A defamation case against Hasan Faizy Karuvarakundu and several other leaders of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama was settled out of the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court here after the accused tendered an unconditional apology.
The defamation case was filed by Sayed Hasan Thangal against Hasan Faizy and 14 others in connection with an article penned by Mr. Faizy and published in a Samastha souvenir of 2012. The article had branded Hasan Thangal’s father Syed Jalaluddin Attakoya Thangal and Sayed Fazal Pookoya Thangal from Androth island as followers of the Shamsiyya Thareeqat.
The article had banked on a reportedly false fatwa by the Jamath Himayath Shariathul Islamiyya (JHSI) from Androth, an organisation that the Samastha leadership had declared as unfit to issue religious verdicts.
The other accused in the case were Bahauddeen Mohammed Nadvi, Pinangode Aboobacker, Abdurahman Musaliar Kadaloor, K.T.M. Basheer Master Panangangara, M.P. Mustafal Faizy, G.M. Salahudheen Faizy, P.A. Sadiq Faizy, P.P. Mohammed Faizy, Vakkodu Moideenkutty Faizy, Alavi Faizy Alanalloor, M.K. Kodassery Faizy, Hamza Rahmani, Faisal Hudavi and Latheef Faizy.
The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court here acquitted all the 15 accused after the dispute was settled out of the court when the accused withdrew the article and apologised to Attakoya Thangal, Pookoya Thangal and their families.
