A bag containing around 30 rounds (bullets) of 9mm carbine magazine belonging to an Armed Reserve (AR) Head Constable reportedly went missing near Collectorate Office Road in Vizianagaram late on Wednesday night. The AR Head Constable, who works with Parvathipuram Manyam district police, was attached as escort staff of Tribal Welfare Minister Gummadi Sandhya Rani.

Inspector of I Town police station, Vizianagaram, S Srinivas said that while heading to Ramavaram village in Gantyada mandal to see his wife, who was unwell, the Head Constable reached Vizianagaram. Before boarding another bus, he was speaking to an autorickshaw driver and a photocopy shop person near Collectorate Road, where he reportedly left the bag on the road. After some time, he noticed that the bag was missing, the CI said.

The Inspector said that the police registered a case, formed special teams to trace the bag. In a CCTV footage retrieved in the opposite street, where the bag was lost, two youth were seen carrying a bag. But from the footage, it is not clear whether it was the same bag, he said.

As per the Vizianagaram district police, in the view of negligence of the Head Constable, he was suspended by the authorities as disciplinary action.
