Having collected 87.82 % property tax for 2024-25, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Wednesday, February 12, launched a campaign appealing people to pay the tax due for the current financial year within the next one-and-half month.

Ravichandra Naik, Commissioner of the corporation, flagged off a vehicle, fitted with a loudspeaker, from in front of the civic body’s head office at Lalbagh, as part of the campaign. It made a public announcement appealing people to pay the tax or face penalty.

Speaking to press persons on the occasion Mr. Naik said that two such vehicles fitted with loudspeakers will ply all over the city covering 60 wards till March end, as part of the campaign.

He said that the city corporation has 2.16 lakh properties. Of ₹ 115 crore property tax demand for the current financial year, the tax payers have so far paid ₹101 crore (87.82 %) and ₹14 crore is due to the corporation.

The corporation had collected ₹ 117 crore property tax against the demand for ₹99 crore tax during 2023-24. It is because the corporation received advance tax for 2024-25 by some payers.

Mr. Naik said that the tax payers will get 5% rebate if they paid the tax for 2025-26 in advance now. The rebate will be valid till this April end.

“Our revenue section officials have begun calling up such tax payers who are yet to pay the tax. Such individuals are called even on Sundays,” the commissioner said.

Mr. Naik said that the corporation will make use of social media platforms as part of the campaign.

Trade licence renewal

K. Akshata, Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), MCC said that the corporation is appealing the traders to renew their trade licence for 2025-26.

Of 24,849 traders in the jurisdiction of the corporation only about 8,000 traders have now renewed their licence, she said. She said that the corporation has so far issued 30,000 e-khats.

The Commissioner appealed to people to get their e-khatas done.
