The Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau (VACB) sleuths on Monday arrested a village field assistant while he was accepting a bribe to issue location sketch of a three-cent land at Pathirappally in Alappuzha.

The arrested has been identified as Aneez of Pathirappally village office. He was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹1,000 from the complainant, a native of Kattoor near Pathirappally.

According to the VACB, the petitioner submitted an application for the location sketch at Pathirappally village office on January 27. Aneez visited the plot and allegedly demanded ₹1,000 as a bribe, in addition to ₹200 fee. The complainant informed it to the VACB, leading to a trap being set.

Aneez was taken into custody while accepting the bribe from the petitioner in front of St. Antony’s Church, Pathirappally. Officials said that he would be produced before the Vigilance Court in Muvattupuzha.
