Class XII student killed in road accident near Arakkonam

A Class XII student of a private school was killed in a road accident after a private bus collided with the two-wheeler she was travelling on at Kumpinipettai village near Arakkonam town. The deceased has been identified as B. Reena of Thandalam village in Arakkonam.

Reena was riding pillion with her father K. Balasubramanian, 48, a farmer, on his two-wheeler on Ranipet-Sholinghur High Road. K. Mahesh, 28, driver of an oncoming private bus tried to overtake a lorry on the stretch. He lost control of the bus and hit their two-wheeler. The duo were thrown off the vehicle in the impact. While Reena died on the spot, her father sustained serious injuries.

Passersby and other motorists immediately took them to Government Taluk Hospital in Arakkonam. They also informed Arakkonam Town police, who went to the spot.

Meanwhile, relatives of the girl and other residents blocked the stretch, demanding strict action against rash drivers, especially private bus operators, on the route.

A few of the protesters damaged windshields of private buses on the stretch. Police and revenue officials pacified agitated residents and family members of the victim.

A case was registered. Special teams have been formed to arrest the bus driver. A probe is under way.
