The MVP police on Saturday arrested a woman who posed as an IAS officer and duped a number of people with the promise of jobs, TIDCO houses and various other schemes from the government. The police have also arrested her husband for supporting her in the crimes. The arrested were identified as V. Bhagya Rekha alias Amrutha and M. Chandrasekhar. The couple have been sent to 15 days remand by the court
As per the MVP police, during March 2024, Bhagya Rekha posed as a Joint Commissioner in HRC Department and took around ₹80,000 from a person, promising a TIDCO house. She also reportedly displayed a fake ID card to win their trust.
On October 2024, she had purchased clothes worth ₹1 lakh from a woman by impersonating herself, and in December 2024, Bhagya Rekha posed herself as GVMC Commissioner and collected ₹1 lakh from a person promising him a job.
The police also learnt that the couple have collected ₹5.50 lakh from several persons in Kancharapalem by promising them jobs. After taking money, the two accused do not respond to the victims ever again, the police said. They also threatened the victims, the police added.
