Pramoda Devi Wadiyar of the erstwhile royal family of Mysuru has taken serious exception to the State government’s move to promulgate an Ordinance in connection with the use of a portion of Bengaluru Palace land for road widening while vowing to continue their legal battle in the matter.
Ms. Wadiyar told reporters late on Friday that the Supreme Court would not have ordered the State government to provide them with Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) for the land proposed to be acquired if it had not recognised the erstwhile royal family as the owner of Bengaluru Palace.
Regarding the State government’s argument that the payment of a huge sum as TDR would affect other development works in the State, Ms. Wadiyar said that the government pays 1.5 times the market value as compensation for land acquired for the Metro project even in commercial areas like M.G. Road. “Why discriminate against us?” she questioned.
