The Chittoor urban police on Friday (October 10, 2025) arrested a person allegedly involved in multiple house thefts in the district. The accused was identified as H. Hanumanthappa, 27, a resident of Bellary district in Karnataka.

According to the police, the arrest was in connection with September 30, 2025, theft case from Ramnagar Colony in Chittoor, where gold ornaments worth over ₹25 lakh, ₹2 lakh cash, and a two wheeler were stolen. The accused, known for committing thefts alone and sleeping in open fields afterwards, is wanted across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.

The police, acting on a complaint from the victim, used technical surveillance and coordinated multi-state operations to track and arrest the accused at Bengaluru Bypass Road. A Chittoor court has remanded the accused to judicial custody.
