A 10-year-old girl was found murdered near Doddakere Maidan early on Thursday (09/10/25) morning, sending shockwaves across Mysuru.
This is the second murder reported in the same area during the last 48 hours. A 36-year-old man was hacked to death near the same place on Tuesday.
The girl belonged to a nomadic group from Kalaburagi and there were eight members of the family which had camped in Mysuru since the last few weeks to eke out a living by selling balloons during the festival season.
The family members used to sell balloons at Doddakere Maidan, Dasara Exhibition, Bannimantap, Devaraj Urs Road and other places.
On Wednesday after their daily routine, the family members retired for the night in the temporary sheds they had built for their stay in Mysuru.
According to police sources, the family went to sleep late on Wednesday night after heavy rains lashed the city. When they woke up in the early hours, they found the girl missing. A frantic search was launched and a missing person complaint was registered with the jurisdictional Nazarbad Police.
The search resumed soon after and the police combing the area stumbled upon the body of the girl. It is suspected to be a case of molestation and murder.
The police, who have launched an investigation, have examined the CCTV camera footage from the nearby areas in pursuit of the culprit.
Sources said a suspect had been identified. Senior police officials, including Commissioner of Police Seema Latkar, forensic experts, and sniffer dogs, visited the scene of crime to collect evidence.
