The flag-off ceremony of 52 newly purchased vehicles of the Motor Vehicles department (MVD) will be held on Friday (October 10, 2025).

As per the new schedule, the flag-off ceremony of the 52 vehicles and the distribution of 914 new E-POS machines by Federal Bank to the MVD will be held at the KSRTC depot in Peroorkada at 10 a.m. on Friday.

The inaugural ceremony was earlier scheduled on September 29, which was called off after the officials failed to arrange the vehicles in front of the Kanakakunnu Palace in Thiruvananthapuram as directed by Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar. The Tourism department had denied permission, stating that the tiles laid in front of the palace premises would be damaged in the process.

A day after the flag-off ceremony was cancelled, a show-cause notice was served on Assistant Motor Vehicles Commissioner V. Joy for the alleged lapses in organising the ceremony. The impromptu decision of the Minister to cancel the event and his announcement to take action against officials prompted sharp criticism from MVD officials.
