The police have arrested 75 history-sheeters across the Ernakulam Range under the Kerala Anti-social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA) over the past eight months.

The action was initiated under the supervision of Ernakulam Range DIG Sateesh Beno, based on the nature and frequency of offences committed. Arrests were made following reports submitted by the respective District Police Chiefs.

Alappuzha recorded the highest number of arrests at 37, followed by Ernakulam Rural with 26, Kottayam with 11, and Idukki with one. Among those arrested in Ernakulam Rural was Rithu, the accused in the Vadakkekara triple murder case. Habitual offenders were similarly detained under KAAPA in Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Idukki districts.

In addition, 91 individuals have been exiled for durations ranging from six months to one year and barred from entering the jurisdiction of their respective police stations during this period. This includes 38 in Alappuzha, 27 in Kottayam, 19 in Ernakulam Rural, and seven in Idukki. The orders were issued by Mr. Beno. Those found violating the ban will be arrested and will not be eligible for bail. “Stringent action will continue against habitual offenders and those who pose a threat to peace and public order,” he said.

Furthermore, 133 history-sheeters have been directed to appear before the Station House Officers concerned once every week. This includes 37 in Alappuzha, 36 in Ernakulam Rural, 13 in Idukki, and 11 in Kottayam.

Besides, 19 persons have been put under preventive arrest under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Another 2,961 were made to submit bonds for good conduct, though they remain under surveillance.
