Idols of Lord Subramanya and his consorts at Sri Balathandayuthapani temple in Punnai Nallur on the outskirts of Thanjavur have been reported stolen.

Thanjavur Taluk Police received a complaint from the priest of the temple, Sathishkumar, 37, of Kariyanatham, that the idols were missing when he opened the temple on Tuesday morning.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the culprits had cut open the metal enclosure in which the idols were kept. The stolen idols were worth ₹3.50 lakh, police said.
