A special court convicted and sentenced a former sub-inspector to five years in jail for receiving ₹2,000 as bribe while serving at the Velachery police station in 2013.

According to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), J. Selvarajan, a building contractor, had business dealings with Alagesan.

Alagesan threatened Selvarajan during a transaction.

When Selvarajan took the matter to the police, sub-inspector Kalaiselvi demanded ₹2,000 for settling the dispute amicably. But he moved the DVAC, which caught her while receiving the bribe.

The special court also imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on her.
