BJP MP from North West Delhi Yogender Chandoliya and party’s Delhi unit chief Virendra Sachdeva on Monday visited the Central government-constructed flats in the JJ clusters of Bawana and criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for “failing to keep them in good condition”.

Mr. Sachdeva said, “We inspected the dilapidated state of flats, which is the result of (AAP chief) Arvind Kejriwal’s obstinacy and political rivalry.” He alleged that 50,000 flats were not allotted to the poor because the former CM “wanted credit” for a Central government project. In response, AAP said the flats are lying vacant because the BJP is “adamant about renting them to Central government employees”, and the Delhi government believes that these should be allotted to jhuggi dwellers, for whom they were constructed. The party said a case regarding the matter is pending before the High Court.

The BJP leaders highlighted how the flats’ walls have collapsed due to lack of maintenance and the premises are covered with dense overgrowth of wild plants and weeds.

He further stated that the Central Government allocated around ₹12,000 crore for constructing these flats for sanitation workers and the poor. However, even after being elected as Chief Minister thrice, Mr. Kejriwal has neglected their allocation and instead made hollow promises of new flats.

He assured that if the BJP-led government comes to power in Delhi, the party will repair the flats and allot them to their ‘rightful owners’.
