People should utilise the benefits of Surya Ghar scheme which is aimed at promoting solar power production and reduction of power bills for the people, Vizianagaram District Collector B. R. Ambedkar said.
He said that the Union government would provide a subsidy of up to ₹78,000 subsidy for 3 kw capacity solar panels bought with an estimated cost of ₹1.45 lakh under the scheme. According to him, three kilo watts of solar panels would be sufficient to generate up to 300 units of power. The excess power generated can be sold to AP Transco Limited.
Mr. Ambedkar said that the scheme would enable people to save up to ₹32,000 power bill per annum. He suggested the people to approach the nearest electricity office to get an application and know the procedure for the installation of the solar panels under Surya Ghar scheme. He said that the government was preparing an action plan to extend the scheme to Scheduled Castes and Tribes families with additional financial assistance.
