The Holehonnur Police in Shivamogga district have succeeded in providing shelter to two girl children, whose parents passed away nine months ago. The police found the girls as part of the ‘Mane Manege Police’ initiative (Police to Every Home), which was launched by the State police.

H.V. Anand, head constable of Holehonnur Police Station in Bhadravati taluk, was assigned to cover four villages under the station limits. During his visit to Muslim Camp, a village near Hanumanthapura, on August 4, he noticed two girl children, aged three and nine.

Understanding that the children require proper care and education, he contacted the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of the district. Now, the children are under the care of the CWC.

M. Shivaprasad, Circle Inspector of Holehonnur, told The Hindu that the two girls lost both their parents nine months ago. “Their father Mohammed Fayaz died of a heart-related illness. Within 21 days of his death, his wife Amreen Banu also died due to low blood pressure and other health issues. The children were under the care of their grandmother Vahida, who worked as a daily-wage worker to feed their grandchildren,” the officer said on Friday.

After the children were handed over to the CWC, a couple of donors had come forward to sponsor their education and other needs. “Our head constable noticed the children and we responded to their cause. We are happy that the children are getting proper care now,” the officer stated.

Shivamogga Superintendent of Police G.K. Mithun Kumar, in a press release on Friday, said, “By helping the two children get proper shelter, the police have worked towards fulfilling the true objectives of the ‘Mane Manege Police’ initiative.”
