In a maiden initiative aimed at helping rehabilitate victims of caste-based violence, 2BHK flats for SC & ST atrocity victims were distributed by the Telangana State SC & ST Commission in collaboration with the Cyberabad police on Wednesday (July 2).
Out of 43 sanctioned units, 31 families received their new homes, offering them not just shelter but the foundation for a life of dignity and stability. Speaking at the event, organised in the Cyberabad commissionerate, Telangana SC & ST Commission Chairman Bakki Venkataiah said that commercial shops would also be allotted at nominal rents near the housing complexes to help families start small businesses
“Telangana is the only state in the country to provide double-bedroom houses to atrocity victims. The SC & ST Commission Chairmen from states like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have shown interest in replicating the model,” he said.
Stressing the need for compassion in implementation, he urged revenue and police officials to ensure that all eligible victims are identified and supported.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty said that while atrocities leave long-lasting scars, initiatives like these help victims regain control over their lives.
The event was attended by several senior officials including Balanagar DCP Suresh Kumar, IPS, Crimes In-charge DCP L.C. Naik, SC & ST Commission Members Rambabu Naik and Jilla Shankar, Vigilance Committee members, NGO representatives, police officers, and the families of the beneficiaries.
